  • Monday 27 February 2023 Y5 Viking Workshop 2023 Year 5 had an amazing visit from the Hobgoblin Theatre Company last week to experience what life was like during the Viking era. We also learnt about where they travelled from, where they invaded and what clothes and means of transport they used. After the production of "A Viking Tale", the children were involved in drama workshops, acting out different scenes, such as working together to create a human longboat and a battle between Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. This was a great insight into the beginning of our history topic this term and we are very excited to learn more about this period of history and how it impacted our lives in Great Britain.

In the morning, the school received a visit from Sarah Owen, Member of Parliament for Luton North, who toured the school and then met with the School Parliament for a mini ‘Question Time’. The children asked Sarah what her role as an MP involved, what values she thought were the most important for a politician to show and what she enjoyed most about her job; one aspiring youngster even asked her if she thought he could be an MP when he grew up! Sarah then helped the children to plant a special commemorative pear tree donated by the school’s catering partner ABM, before rushing off to her next appointment.

The symbolism of odd socks teaches children that they are all unique and helps us all to learn values of acceptance and friendship and that everyone is free to express themselves. This year the Anti-bullying Alliance is calling for people to use 'One Kind Word'. We will be teaching the children in school about the importance of kind words and kind actions and finding ways we can eliminate bullying behaviour. Thank you to all those who joined in the fun and rocked their socks!
