Year 5 Carnival Arts

Year 5 were extremely lucky last week, when the UK Carnival Arts Centre in Luton came to The Meads to host a carnival costume workshop. The theme for the costumes was animals from the Rainforest linked to our topic this term of South America. The Meads were chosen to kick off a national program to encourage all children in the UK to celebrate carnivals together in their school. Due to current COVID restrictions, carnivals are unable to be held around the country.

Clary Salandy, from the UK Carnival Arts Centre in Luton, spent two days working with the children making beautiful collars and crowns decorated with animals found in the Amazon. On Thursday, we were lucky to also get dressed up in real carnival clothes, previously worn at the Notting Hill Carnival for our very own parade. I think you will all agree Year 5 look amazing.
